Kom people make their home in the heart of the North West Region of Cameroon, known as ‘Komland’. A pilot once remarked, “The only other place in Cameroon that is as beautiful as Komland from the air is the Mandara mountains in the Far North Region of Cameroon.”

Kom has a rich culture and the people love their language, which is one of the most developed of the 280 national languages of Cameroon. The Kom New Testament, published in 2004, has provided a base text for adaptions into three neighboring languages (Bum, Mmen and Babanki). A speaker of Oku once said that only as late as a hundred years ago, all people groups neighbouring Kom considered the language as the literary language of the whole region. Even though people did not write the language, it was the preferred language for poetry and other literary expressions.
Confidence
I sent some video performances of Kom songs to my sister in the US. She and her kids were so thrilled, and asked for the words and audio so that they could learn them too.
Pastor Everet
Gone are those days when some people thought that our traditional genres were satanic! We can use Ndoŋ, Njàŋ Wàyn, Fɨ̀mbàŋ, Choŋ and other traditional rhythms to worship God!
Kom Pastor
After seeing the psalms performed in Kom, I realised that if the gospel had been presented as we saw it here today, through local music and culture, all the Kom would be Christian.
